I went up to the 'burbs for a day of Christmas feasting, good friend time spending, and mostly some dog pettin' time. Well that's what everyone who came over for Christmas did. Here is my dad, prepping Merlin for the big day ahead of him. What's interesting about our Christmas celebration is that over the years it has turned into a big Jew-a-thon, considering the only people who are not really jewish are my mom and her brothers and my aunt. We did the whole menorah thing because this was one of those years where the holidays intercepted.
I'm a huge New York-phile. While I was born and raised in Brooklyn, I lived in the suburbs and then Chicago for part of my life and have returned to the city as an adult which has given me the unique perspective of being in awe of the city and its spirit, while maintaining much of that "I've been here, I knew what it was like when, it's home" vibe that many old skoolers have. The people that surround me are a real mash up of born and bred New Yorkers and transplants completely in love with the city. I'm rediscovering this city, from fancy dance clubs and fashion kids, to Brooklyn bike rides, art events and potlucks.
