Its just a sweet sweet fantasty, baby

I stumbled upon these great paintings at the Hunter MFA open studios.

Then I realized that many of the subjects had the same face as the painter herself. And the dude was often her boyfriend. And then I felt a little.... well I blushed. It was like she was letting me into her fantasy life with her boyfriend. Which is a big voyeuristic, and a bit of an over share on her part, but I have to say these painting were some of my favorite pieces in the whole she-bang.
As it turns out I really love sharing in other people's fantasies. Who knew? I guess when they are well constructed as these are.

Happy weekend!

Dudes on Bikes

When I'm walking down the street, and I see a dude on a bike I'm usually like "That's hot."

When I'm walking down the street, and I see a dude on a bike wearing a helmet I'm usually like "That's so hot."

When I'm walking down the street, and I see a dude on a bike dressed really well and wearing a helmet I'm usually like "That's so fucking hot."

Aparently the New York Times had the same idea.

And the article attached to the photoshoot said this about Amsterdam bike culture:
"There, where riding a bicycle to work in a suit and tie is as notable an act as drinking a cup of coffee, there is no bike culture — all culture includes the bike."
I thought that summed up my thoughts on what bike culture should be too.

There is no love for the helmet though, in either of their articles, which is dumb, because that could save your life. I love on my brainz-hardcore.

I can't dance and I really can't sing

I can only do one thing and that's being Lady Sovereign.
We saw her at the Tribeca Grand. And then we by accident sat in her reserved seats afterwards. Whoops.
She's quite short.
She's also quite good and the hizzip hizzop, ya dig?

Passover

Did you know its obligatory to drink four glasses of wine on passover? I didn't.
Even though I'm half a jew, kinda, and I've been to many a cedar, I've never really attended an offical one with a cedar plate and prayers, etc. My grandma kinda just told me the story and we ate together (and watched Rugrats passover)
Since all my jewish family members were sick, Babs and I had our very own cedar, and my first.

This is me- opening the door for Elijah. He never came! That's jerk is always invited but never shows up, wtf? We drank his glass of wine also.

Babs- eating a bitter herb dipped in salt water.

"...drink a sip or the whole glass..."
We opted for the later.

Our cedar, complete with an Orange for gender neutralness and olives for peace.

Barbara with our Haggadah. It was very feminist with a poem by Judy Chicago and gender neutral prayers.

BALLER!

Hunter MFA Open Studio part B

I went to the Hunter Open Studios and went to crazy town with my camera. Here are some one offs that I found a bit bizzare-o, and so perfectly out of context, many of these were studies or just quick little things. Enjoy- happy weekend, happy passover, happy easter!

Beautiful Sky

I was walking through Park Slope the other day and the sky was just so incredible. I tried to take a picture that properly expressed the colors, but my camera just isn't up to the job.
I love those beautiful days when despite the concrete covered ground, the rambling cars, the store awnings, despite all that nature is still able to be the squeakiest wheel.
GO EARTH!

Graphic Art

I went to the Hunter Open Studios last friday, and this was the first work I spotted. I kinda like it, its simple, graphic, a little whimsical, fun!
Its not very "smart" or "intellectual." The pieces are not going to move minds or inspire symphonies, but maybe not all art has to be great works, maybe it can just satisfy an aesthetic desire. And that is more than okay- its fabulous.
