A Life More Illustrated

If you look to the right, you'll notice a new blog has been added.
Jordan, of Thrive Guide has started a new blog. The ballerest blog. One of my favorite blogs ever, A Life More Illustrated.
The basis of the blog is really quite simple- he talks to his ma on the phone and illustrates a tidbit from their conversation. Its always really touching, humorous and unique. It manages to be totally accessible, as being very familiar to how I talk with my ma, but deeply personal because it is actually a piece of their chatter. A snap shot of Jordan and Dena's gab, from Dena's mouth to Jordan's hand. AND I must comment on how lovely and charming his illustrations are.
Even though I have never met Dena, I feel I know her a bit, and I feel I know Jordan's love for his ma. It's a special thing.

YACHT/Bad Brilliance

Agathe, Jackie and myself headed over to Santo's to check out the Yacht concert. About a year ago Yacht played at Studio B. I bought tickets because I was so excited, but then totally forgot about the concert until the next day.
I felt foolish and that I wasted money.
That fate was not going to happen to me twice!
Opening for Yacht was Bad Brilliance. I'm not sure how to talk about the performance. It was definitely a spectacle, really fun to watch, totally bizzare but I'm almost positive it wasn't actually any good. Completely disposable, but then again that is my favorite type of work.
There was a red carpet with security, booty dancers, breakers, and old people getting down to Bad's hip hop beatz. It was completely fabricated, perhaps going back to Andy Warhol's ideas of celebrity.

And then YACHT CAME ON! He rocked the show, as one would expect.
This time Yacht is two people, a lady and the dude. The lady is new. I could go either way on if I think she should be there or not, but I felt that thier on stage act was kinda wierd. It seemed as though she kept annoying the dude, saying the wrong things and embarrssing Jona. I didn't like it. And thier "talking to the audience" act was a bit too plastic, I like to know the performers. BUT they still kicked out the jams and showed us a new music video, so I can't complain much.

sketch-a-letch

Been working on getting back my drawing skills. Actually I never really had that great drawing skills, but you know, I'm trying. Since I haven't fashioned around town seriously in a hot minute I'm not even drawing my ideas. I want to make sure I understand how fabric looks on a form before I try to make my own ideas come to life. I'm starting simple... with Alexander Wang's resort collection, at my office, with a ball point pen. Whaddya think?

Maybe sometime I can work up to drawing me some Dior...

Butter

So it was restaurant week. Once again the food was alright, but that's not the point.
The point is my fabulous ladies.
My fabulous ladies from forever ago all met at Butter because blahblahblahsomethingaboutgossipgirlblahblahblah and they had vegetarian options for the vegetarians and kosher of us. New York is, after all, a mish mosh of people too.
Afterwards it was a bit rainy (CHECK OUT MY BALLER ALEXANDRE HERCHOVITCH RAIN BOOTS, BIATCH!) and we had fun playing around the Astor Square cube. I love these ladies, they have my heart in such a way that I couldn't even begin to explain. I may want to kill them, and time has brought us together and pulled us apart as our interests vary, as we become independent women. The waves always have a way of bringing us back together, there is too much history, too many stupid inside jokes, and an intense secret language that only we understand. Gush.

BEST TEE SHIRT EVER

Okay- it was only ten dollars and I probably should have bought it, but I left it for someone more deserving. HOWEVER I think it is brilliant- amazing- wowzah.

Montreal

Agathe and me decided to take a trip up to one of my all time favorite cities, Montreal, for a weekend. Agathe had never been, in fact she said it was the most North she has ever been in her life. There was a summer when I lived there, and I try to visit every year. It's just such a fabulous city, and even though it was just a weekend with Agathe by my side my French seemed to improve overnight. En fait, si vous voulez, on peut parle Francais seulement... peut-etre no, alors... un petit plus temps svp!We climbed Mount Royal, in jellies and purses. I'll show you a video of that adventure soon but let me just say- we're hardcore.
I loved this photo because she looked like nymph caught in the forest unawares.
TamTams is this wonderful Sunday happening at the base of Mount Royal, with drums and dancing, tightrope walking and kite flying. Best of all is the mid evil fighting with duct tape swords. Kids (of all ages) get real into it and bring chain mail and sheilds. I even saw a bow and arrow guy.
RULES OF PLAY:
1-If you're playing and you are hit on your arm, you have to hid your arm behind your back.
2-If your leg is hit then you have to kneel, as though you have lost your legs.
3-If your head or chest is hit then you are dead until the next round.

This guy was totes dancing during TamTams and he was into it.

I tried tightrope walking, but I could not even kinda do it unless I had Agathe to hold onto for dear life. This guy was very impressive, traveling across with no help at all. Skillz.
